CYQ would like to reassure centres of the rigorous quality control procedures in place for creating, reviewing and editing multiple-choice tests. These processes are underpinned by the Ofqual Conditions of Recognition and outlined below:
  • items are drafted by subject experts according to a set specification to ensure full coverage of the unit being tested.
  • each item is subject to a rigorous review carried out by a panel of experts to ensure that it maps to the relevant centre resources and is set at the appropriate level for the qualification/learner.
  • items are then edited accordingly.
  • CYQ holds quarterly review meetings to look at real statistics relating to item/test performance, focusing on reliability and comparability.
  • at the same meetings CYQ consider any feedback from learners.
  • items/papers are then amended accordingly.

CYQ takes the security of papers very seriously and would like to take this opportunity to remind centres that it is not permissible to remove test papers from the examination room for review or other use. Any breach of security will result in an investigation.
