By completing this qualification, learners will meet industry requirements to become a multi-disciplined Fitness Instructor, meeting the requirements of a range of CIMSPA professional standards.

The purpose of this qualification is to provide learners with the skills, knowledge and competence they need to follow a career as an exercise and fitness instructor.

Learners will meet the requirements of occupational, population and environment specialisms, allowing access to jobs working in the exercise and fitness sector in a range of settings and with a range of clients.

Endorsed by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA).

CIMSPA professional standards are employer-led and define the knowledge and skills individuals must understand and demonstrate to undertake a particular role.

 


 

Employers want their fitness instructors to be able to do more than one thing. Learners completing this qualification will meet the requirements of several CIMSPA professional standards including at least:

  • one occupation specialism
  • one population specialism
  • one environment specialism.

Employers also want to be confident that their client-facing staff are going to represent their brand and provide an outstanding customer experience.

That's why, through assessment of this qualification, learners will demonstrate their ability to present themselves professionally, communicate effectively and motivate clients.

 

 

Learners must be aged 16 plus. Ideally they should have some experience of group or gym-based exercises as participation in a variety of practical sessions will be required throughout the qualification. Learners should also have communication skills pitched at level 2 which can be developed during the course.

To achieve the YMCA Level 2 Diploma in Exercise and Fitness Instructing (603/7285/0), learners must complete:

  • 210 GLH from Group A: Underpinning knowledge and skills
  • A minimum of 180 GLH from all other groups

Note: The minimum GLH required to come from Group B is determined by the options selected in Groups C-K.
