Through completion of these qualifications, learners will meet industry requirements to engage children of different ages in sport and physical activity, as set out within CIMSPA's professional standards.

The purpose of these qualifications is to enable learners to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours to professionally, plan and deliver safe and effective sport and physical activity sessions to children and young people. Depending on the qualification(s) selected, learners will study to work with children and young people aged 0–5 or 5–18. 

Completing these qualifications provides learners with access to jobs running sport and physical activity sessions with their chosen age group. Learners can also expand their knowledge and skills to plan and deliver out of curriculum sport and physical activity in either a primary or secondary school environment.

The following qualifications are mapped to CIMSPA population specialisms, providing learners with the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to plan and deliver safe and effective sport and physical activity sessions for specific groups:

  • YMCA Level 2 Award in Engaging Children Aged 0-5 in Sport and Physical Activity
  • YMCA Level 2 Award in Engaging Children and Young People in Sport and Physical Activity

Following the completion of YMCA Level 2 Award in Engaging Children and Young People in Sport and Physical Activity, learners can move on to the YMCA Level 2 Award in Delivering Sport and Physical Activity in the School Environment: Out of Curriculum, which maps to a CIMSPA environment specialism. This provides learners with the knowledge, skills and behaviours to work in either a primary or secondary school environment depending on the pathway selected.

    YMCA Level 2 Award in Delivering Sport and Physical Activity in the School Environment: Out of Curriculum (603/7217/5)

    • Designed for learners looking to run out of curriculum sport and physical activity sessions within a school or college. This could include breakfast, lunchtime or after school clubs.
    • Fully meets the requirements of the CIMSPA Working in a School Environment (Out of Curriculum) professional standard.

    Learners must be aged 16 plus at the point of certification and meet the additional requirements outlined below.

    YMCA Level 2 Award in Engaging Children Aged 0-5 in Sport and Physical Activity (603/7218/7)As these are population specialism qualifications, learners should have already achieved a relevant fitness qualification that is mapped to The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) occupational professional standard.
    YMCA Level 2 Award in Engaging Children and Young People in Sport and Physical Activity (603/7216/3)
    YMCA Level 2 Award in Delivering Sport and Physical Activity in the School Environment: Out of Curriculum (603/7217/5)As this is an environmental specialism qualification, leaners must have already achieved a qualification that is mapped to CIMSPA’s working with children and safeguarding and protecting children professional standards. 

     

    To achieve the YMCA Level 2 Award in Engaging Children and Young People in Sport and Physical Activity (603/7216/3) learners must complete three mandatory units and one optional safeguarding unit.

    To achieve the YMCA Level 2 Award in Delivering Sport and Physical Activity in the School Environment: Out of Curriculum (603/7217/5) learners must complete one mandatory unit and one pathway unit (primary or secondary).

    To achieve the YMCA Level 2 Award in Engaging Children Aged 0-5 in Sport and Physical Activity (603/7218/7) learners must complete three mandatory units and one optional safeguarding unit.
