By completing one of these qualifications, learners will meet industry requirements to engage the most inactive people in society and change their inactive behaviour, as set out within the CIMSPA professional standard.

The purpose of this qualification is to enable qualified group exercise and/or fitness instructors to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours to work with inactive adults with no pre-existing health conditions.

Completing this qualification will enable learners to plan and deliver physical activity programmes that engage and positively challenge inactive individuals to create long-term behaviours change.

This qualification develops the knowledge and skills exercise and fitness instructor need to plan and deliver physical activity programmes to the most inactive in society including those who do:

  • no physical activity
  • less than 30 mins a week of moderate intensity
  • more than 30 mins a week but light intensity

This qualification is endorsed by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA).

CIMSPA professional standards are employer-led and define the knowledge and skills individuals must understand and demonstrate to undertake a particular role.


Work with broader client base

 

This qualification provides the tools to enable learners to engage inactive clients to sustainably increase physical activity to reduce sedentary lifestyle behaviours.

 

 

This qualification is designed to support existing fitness and exercise instructors develop and deliver physical activity programmes for inactive clients. Learners must therefore be aged 16+ with an existing gym or group exercise instructing qualification.

To achieve the YMCA Level 2 Award in Engaging Inactive People in Physical Activity to Create Long-Term Behaviour Change (603/7345/3), learners need to achieve 2 mandatory units.
