Through completion of these qualifications, learners will develop the knowledge and practical skills to deal with a wide range of paediatric first aid situations.

These qualifications are for anyone working with, or caring for, infants and children.

They have been designed with the current Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) requirements in mind and, upon certification, learners can be included in their workplace's staff to children first aid ratios.

YMCA Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid

Enables learners to deal with a wide range of situations including:

  • assessing emergency situations
  • providing first aid to an unresponsive infant or child
  • CPR
  • choking
  • external bleeding
  • bites, stings and minor injuries

YMCA Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid

  • Builds on the smaller qualification to add knowledge and skills to manage paediatric illness and injuries including:
  • suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joints
  • head and spinal injures
  • acute medical conditions (including diabetes and asthma)
  • burns and scalds and anaphylaxis.

 

Learners need to be aged 14 or older.

To achieve the YMCA Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid, learners must complete Unit 1. To achieve the YMCA Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid, learners must complete both Units 1 and 2.
