Overview

The aim of this qualification is to recognise the skills, knowledge and competences needed for an individual to administer emergency first aid in the workplace. This includes being able to assess, diagnose and treat casualties before the arrival of medically trained staff.

Knowledge and understanding relating to the qualification:

  • Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider
  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty who is in shock
  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with minor injuries

Skills relating to the qualification:

  • Be able to assess an incident
  • Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty
  • Be able to provide first aid to a casualty who is choking
  • Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding
