• YMCA Awards Announces Launch of Two New Technical Specialist Qualifications

As part of its continued commitment to developing industry-leading education pathways, YMCA Awards has announced the launch of two new funded technical specialist qualifications, both set to officially launch on 1 August 2026.

    The new qualifications include:

YMCA Level 3 Technical Specialist in Supporting Participation in Physical Activity: Long-Term Health Conditions (Certificate)

YMCA Level 3 Technical Specialist in Performance Massage (Certificate)

The qualifications have been designed to support evolving workforce demands across the health, fitness and wellbeing sector, while providing learners and training providers with accessible, industry-relevant progression opportunities.

The new Long-Term Health Conditions qualification reflects the growing importance of specialist knowledge within the sector, equipping professionals with the skills needed to safely and effectively support individuals living with a range of health conditions through physical activity and exercise participation.

Alongside this, the new Performance Massage qualification has been developed to meet increasing demand for specialist recovery and performance support services within active populations, sport and fitness environments.

All associated qualification documentation and centre resources are expected to be available by the end of June 2026, ahead of the August launch date.

Vicki Steer, Acting Head of YMCA Awards said:

“These new qualifications represent another important step forward in ensuring the sector has access to the specialist skills and knowledge needed to support modern health, fitness and wellbeing demands. As the industry continues to evolve, it is vital that qualifications evolve with it. These new technical specialist pathways have been developed to support both learners and training providers with qualifications that are relevant, accessible and aligned to the future needs of the sector.”

Further information regarding centre standardisation training and qualification delivery support will be communicated to centres ahead of launch.
