Approval Requirements - YMCA Awards
  • Approval Requirements

To become a YMCA Awards approved training provider, centres need to demonstrate they have the right staff and equipment in place to support learners to achieve the qualification.

    We recheck this information:

Every autumn as part of our annual registration process
When a new member of staff joins the team delivering a YMCA Awards qualification
When a training provider wants to deliver a new YMCA Awards qualification
During our external quality assurance activities

    Tutor requirements

Tutors are on the front-line planning, delivering and evaluating programmes of learning to meet the needs of all learners registered on YMCA Awards qualifications.
    Tutors usually require:

    • A discipline specific qualification at/above the level they plan to teach
    • A teaching qualification.

    Examples of teaching qualifications include:

    Assessor requirements

Assessors use their subject matter and technical expertise to make informed judgments on the range of evidence produced by learners to demonstrate their knowledge, skills and understanding.
Assessors can only assess in their area of technical competence and experience. This means assessors need:

    • A discipline specific qualification at/above the level being delivered.
    • An assessing qualification.

    Examples of assessing qualifications include:

    IQA requirements

Internal quality assurers/internal verifiers (IQAs) are responsible for maintaining standards. They do this by using their subject matter and technical expertise to make informed judgments on the practice of – and decisions made by – the assessment team.
IQAs can only quality assure assessment decisions in their area of technical competence and experience. Tutors will require:

    • A discipline specific qualification at/above the level being delivered.
    • An internal quality assurance qualification.

    Examples of IQAs include:

    Other staff requirements

As well as the delivery staff listed above, centres need to assign the following job roles:
