    Our Exercise and Fitness qualifications play a vital role in developing competent, confident professionals across the sector.

    Due to growth, we are looking to expand our team of External Quality Assurers nationally, with demand in the following areas:

    • East of England
    • South of England
    • North-West
    • Scotland
    • Wales

    The Role

    We are seeking experienced Freelance External Quality Assurers (EQA) in:

    • Exercise and Fitness
    • Exercise and Fitness (Welsh Speaking)

    to support the quality assurance of our regulated and non-regulated qualifications.

    As an EQA, you will work closely with approved YMCA Awards centres to ensure assessment decisions are fair, valid, reliable, and in line with regulatory and awarding organisation requirements.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Carry out external quality assurance activities in line with YMCA Awards’ policies and procedures
    • Monitor and support centres to ensure consistent assessment and internal quality assurance practice
    • Review learner evidence, assessment decisions, and internal verification processes
    • Provide clear, constructive feedback and action plans to centres
    • Complete accurate EQA reports within agreed timescales
    • Support centres with standardisation and continuous improvement
    • Maintain up-to-date sector knowledge and compliance with regulatory requirements

    Essential Requirements

    • Occupational competence in the Health, Exercise and Fitness sector
    • Significant experience assessing and internally quality assuring fitness qualifications
    • Current or recent experience working with regulated qualifications
    • Strong understanding of external quality assurance principles
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Confident using online systems and digital platforms
    • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

    Desirable

    • A recognised EQA qualification
    • Experience working with an Awarding Organisation
    • Knowledge of Ofqual-regulated qualifications
    • Experience across a range of fitness disciplines (e.g. gym-based, group exercise, personal training)
