    Overview

    Through completion of this qualification, learners will meet industry requirements to engage children of different ages in sport and physical activity – in either a primary or secondary school environment – as set out within CIMSPA’s professional standard.

    Completing this qualification provides learners with access to jobs running sport and physical activity sessions in schools, with their chosen age group.

    Qualification details

    Learners will cover:

    • Understanding the school and further education sector.
    • The school’s role in the community setting.
    • Barriers to participation in physical activity and competitive sport.
    • Engagement in competitive and non-competitive school sports and activities.
    • Planning and delivering sport and physical activity in the primary school environment for children aged 5-11.
    • Planning and delivering sport and physical activity in the secondary school and further education environment for children and young people aged 11-18.

    To achieve this qualification, learners must complete 1 mandatory unit and one optional unit. There are  8 assessment tasks:

    • Principles of delivering sport and physical activity in the school environment: out of curriculum
    • Knowledge questions
    • Legislation, policy and procedure guide
    • National curriculum report
    • Physical activity sessions for children in the school environment 12-week progressive plan
    • Session plans
    • Observation of practical teaching
    • Final practical observation

    This qualification provides learners with access to jobs running sport and physical activity sessions in schools, with their chosen age group.
