Overview

Leisure Duty Managers are responsible for the day-to-day operation of a leisure facility.

The Standard lays out in detail the knowledge, skills and behaviours a Leisure Duty Manager needs to be successful in the role and industry. The assessment requirements are defined in the assessment plan. Assessment is designed to closely reference real work activity. This allows the apprentice to be assessed based on genuine work performance.

This Apprenticeship Standard has been designed by 16 leading employers, to make sure that it meets the needs of the modern fitness and leisure industry.

Before EPA

Before end-point assessment, the Level 2 English and Maths components of the apprenticeship must be successfully achieved. In addition, the level three Pool Plant Operator and First Aid at work must be completed.

Assessed by

Apprentices are assessed by an end-point assessor, appointed by YMCA Awards.

We only work with experienced assessors who have current occupational expertise and knowledge of the area they are assessing.

Assessment

The EPA consists of three distinct assessment methods, in this running order:

1. Project:
a work-based project report of between 2000-3000 words, submitted directly to the end point assessor

2. Presentation:
a 30-minute presentation, conducted using video call technology

3. Professional discussions:
competency-based discussion, conducted using video call technology.

Grading

Grading is made up of three categories: Pass, Distinction and Fail. Each assessment is graded individually and then combined to determine the EPA grade.

Professional body recognition

Apprentices who successfully complete will be eligible apply to become a member with the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA).
