This qualification provides learners with the knowledge and skills required for industry recognition as a sports massage therapist.

The purpose of this qualification is to enable learners to provide sports massage therapy to clients to treat conditions resulting from soft tissue dysfunction, ease muscular tension and treat minor injuries sustained during physical activity.

Fully endorsed and supported by The General Council for Massage Therapy (GCMT) and developed in association with The Association for Soft Tissue Therapists (SMA), this qualification has been mapped to the latest national occupational standards (NOS).


 

Aligned to the health practitioner membership requirements of Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) and meets the requirements for entry to SMA for membership as sports massage therapist.

Currently working as a Personal Trainer? Use this qualification to diversify your services including

  • treatment of conditions resulting from soft tissue dysfunction
  • treatment of minor injuries sustained during physical activity
  • ease muscular tension

 

 

Learners must be aged 16+, be fit enough to perform massage and be able to communicate with clients. They will also need to have completed either:

  • YMCA Level 3 Diploma in Performance Massage (610/0701/8)
  • YMCA Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy (601/5011/7) or equivalent.

To achieve the YMCA Level 4 Certificate in Sports Massage Therapy (soft tissue dysfunction) (610/0736/5), learners need to achieve 4 mandatory units:

This qualification is required for industry recognition as a sports massage therapist. It may be used to support access towards degree studies related to Sports Therapy and/or Sport and Exercise Sciences.
