By completing this qualification, learners will meet industry requirements to work inclusively with clients with disabilities and impairments, as set out within the CIMSPA professional standard.

The purpose of this qualification is to provide learners with the knowledge and skills necessary to support inclusive working in a physical activity setting. These essential elements are required for industry recognition as an instructor of physical activity and exercise for individuals with disabilities and impairments.

This qualification will enable learners to recognise the challenges that individuals with disabilities and impairments experience when attending a physical activity setting and when participating in physical activity and exercise.

Completing this qualification will allow existing exercise and fitness instructors to expand their scope of practice to include working with clients with disabilities and impairments.

Practitioner status


 

This qualification is endorsed by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA).

CIMSPA professional standards are employer-led and define the knowledge and skills individuals must understand and demonstrate to undertake a particular role.


Expand scope of practice

 

Learners completing the optional unit will be acknowledged with the addition of the term ‘Practitioner’ on their certificate to confirm they have fully met the requirements of the CIMSPA professional standard by demonstrating relevant skills delivering exercise for this population.

 

 

This qualification has been designed for learners who:

  • are 16+ years old
  • hold an appropriate sport/exercise or fitness qualification mapped to a CIMSPA occupational professional standard.
  • are able to communicate effectively with individuals and groups 

In order to have developed teaching skills and confidence, it is recommended that learners have at least 6 months experience planning and delivering exercise sessions before taking this qualification.
 

To achieve the YMCA Level 3 Award in Supporting Participation in Physical Activity: Disability and Impairment, learners must complete the following; 

  • 1 unit from Group A: Underpinning knowledge 
  • 1 unit from Group B: Safeguarding Adults and Adults at Risk 

To fully meet the requirements of the CIMSPA Working Inclusively (Working with Disabled Clients) Professional Standard, learners must also complete:

  • 1 unit from Group C: Optional Unit

Training providers will charge learners more than the prices listed below to cover the costs of the delivery of teaching and assessment they complete on our behalf.
